Firecatcher
Firecatcher from Wychwood brewery in Witney Oxfordshire. When poured it was clear and golden with a small white head (the head didn’t last too long). There was hints of citrus, hops and a grassy aroma.Tastes of a sweet caramel malt with a hint of lemon also has a slight spicey feel to it.At 3.5% its very much a session ale,but for me it was uninspiring and probably wouldn’t buy this again.2/5
This is from the Wychwood website:-Pale,crisp and lightly aromatic.Firecatcher brings together the best of British barley and wheat.Warming hints of honeyed nectar spark the intense and sharp gooseberry flames.Light in body but pleasingly quenching. Catch one and put out the fire.
Harper’s Ruby Red Ale.
Harper’s Ruby Red Ale from Aldi.I have researched this brewery (Harper’s)and it seems that its brewed by Marston’s especially for Aldi under the Harper’s brewery name.
On pouring it was a really deep red colour, almost black looking in the glass, with a frothy white head (didnt last very long). An aroma of caramel and chocolate. Tasted very sweet, with hints of chocolate and raspberry.Coming in at 5% to me isn’t a session ale.Purchased from Aldi for £1.25 so very good value and probably would buy it again.3/5.
Bank’s Golden Beer.
This is from the website “Pouring a shimmering pale gold. Bank’s golden beer is clean, crisp and quenching. Lightly bitter with delicate clementine oranges and luscious lemon citrus notes delivering a moorish ale for every occasion.
Another brewery owned by Marston but the brewing is done at the park brewery in Wolverhampton. On Pouring, the beer cleared to a light golden colour with a white head (the head faded fairly quickly). Lovely citrusy aroma and a faintly hoppy overtone. Tasting very much of the clementine notes that’s stated on the website, i always read the label and try to make a comparison, and on this occasion its exactly what it says. Coming in at 3.8% this is a fine session ale, and will be drinking again. 4/5.
Blue Moon
Blue moon,a Belgian style wheat beer brewed with orange peel for a subtle sweetness and bright, citrus aroma. On pouring the head was pretty much gone before I was half way down the glass,it was quite cloudy and pale. The orange peel came through in the aroma, with a faint caramel malt. A little spicy in the taste and again the orange comes through in the taste,a bit too much emphasis on the spice for my liking, but I would buy again.I found it a little pricey for supermarket standards (£1.85 for a 330ml bottle) so that could put me off slightly. At 5.4% its not a session beer for me 3/5.
Brewed by Blue moon brewing company (Miller Coors) in Colorado,United States. But I do believe the ones sold in the UK are brewed at Burton on Trent and are not imported.
Dry Neck
Dry Neck from Wychwood brewery in Whitney Oxfordshire www.wychwood.co.uk is a great golden ale. When poured it is golden in colour with a long lasting white frothy head.It has an aroma of light fruity hops with a hint of citrus. It has a slightly sweet taste a bit fruity really and hints of grass and hay.Very tasty indeed and at 4% could be classed as a session ale. This is what it says on the bottle “Malts of the palest hue combined with the magic of Mosaic hops create refreshing fruity aromas and thirst quenching flavours of sweet citrus and berry fruits. The perfect beer to quench the driest of throats.”A great beer to enjoy mostly over the colder months(not sure why,it just gave me that warm feeling when sat in front of the fire).4/5
